We’re raising funds and welcoming new members through the 150th National Anniversary Challenges to celebrate 150 years of Mothers’ Union. We’re supporting families and communities in both Britain & Ireland and around the world.
This is grassroots action with global impact: local people responding to local need, supported by a worldwide movement of faith in action.
We are Mothers’ Union, a global Christian movement rooted in local communities supporting those of all faiths and none.
Founded in 1876 by Mary Sumner, we now have over 4 million members worldwide. But our strength has always come from the ground up. Our work is led by people who live in the communities they serve, women and men who understand local challenges because they experience them first hand.
That’s what makes us different: local solutions, shaped and delivered by local people, connected through a global network of support and shared purpose.
Families everywhere are under pressure, from poverty and isolation to conflict, displacement, and lack of opportunity. These challenges look different in different places, but the need for dignity, hope, and practical support is universal.
The 150th National Challenges are about responding to those needs in the way Mothers’ Union does best:
This isn’t about a single project or a one-size-fits-all solution. It’s about trusting local communities to know what will make the biggest difference, while being backed by the strength and experience of a global movement.
Across Britain & Ireland, dioceses and local groups are taking on some creative and exciting fundraising challenges!
Some are walking, some are baking, some are hosting concerts or community events. All are contributing to the same shared goal: supporting families and communities, now and for the future.
Together, these local efforts will raise funds that allow Mothers’ Union to act wherever the need is greatest.
Donations to the 150th Anniversary Fund will support Mothers’ Union’s charitable work:
Funds will be allocated flexibly, broadly split across both areas, so we can:
A proportion of funds raised through the challenge will also be shared back with participating dioceses to support local projects close to their hearts.
This flexibility is intentional, it’s how we maximise impact and ensure every pound works as hard as possible.
When you give, you are:
